Committee Reports

News from the Stewardship Committee:

I am so glad the hot summer is all over. Wow, I can't believe it's over. Praise the Lord! Those of us who stayed the entire summer deserve a medal. Well now, let's get down to business for the coming fall and winter.

The Biggest Event of the fall is the Fellowship Dinner on Friday night, November 7, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. The location is at Gulf Landings Clubhouse at Sea Forest in New Port Richey (directions will be enclosed  in your invitations). Those of you who attended our last annual Christmas Party know where it is. It is a beautiful clubhouse on the water. It gives all we want for the mother of all potluck dinners.

Due to the current economic situation our church cannot afford to pay for a dinner at the Spartan Manor. However, where there is a will there is a way. With the help of Mr. and Mrs. Bill and Margarite Musso we were able to book this beautiful clubhouse. We are asking you  to help us out by bringing to the potluck dinner, either a vegetable, salad, or dessert. We are supplying the ham and turkey. We will be serving wine and soft drinks. A donation of $2.00 per glass of wine and $1.00 per glass of Soft drink is requested. We will also have a band for your dancing and listening pleasure.

This is a dress-up dinner-dance. We will have a guest speaker whom you will all enjoy. We will gather to celebrate our various ministries, to respond to God's call on the stewardship of our lives and to enjoy each other's company.

As Chairman of the Stewardship Committee, and with their backing. I ask that you fill out your pledge card on this evening and also to give a little more than usual. For those of you who are tithing, Thank You. For those of you who are working toward tithing now is the time to tithe. For those of you who cannot tithe, we understand, May God bless you all.

Thank you for supporting you church and let's make the Fellowship Dinner a great success by your attendance and pledging.

We can't forget our Mile of  Pennies jar in the Parish Hall. There are 84,480 Pennies in each mile. Our Diocese has collected more than 33 miles of pennies so far. Remember to put pocket change in and a penny for each year of your age on your birthday. These funds are used to buy books for children under the age of twelve. Thank you for remembering.

We have been weeding and transplanting like crazy. Flowers and shrubs have bee planted at the north end of the Church School building.

Some of the shrubs along the walkway between the church and courtyard, that were killed by the frost, were replaced.

Father Long graciously donated a statute of St. Francis which we put under the palm trees. Markers were made "in loving memory of Virginia Long" What a beautiful setting. We have sent pictures to their children.

Many, many thanks to Florence Holden for our newest Palm tree. She had it dug up from her yard and planted in the courtyard.

Things are looking good!

Thrift Shop News

Florence Holden, Chairperson

Another quarter has passed and the Thrift Shop is doing very well. Our success is due to several reasons. To name a few: the ladies who volunteer their time Monday through Friday selling, sorting, pricing and even washing, mending, ironing when necessary, the donations the parishioners and neighbors bring in and the support of the community.

The net proceeds are given to our church,  local, dioceses, and national outreach programs. Clothing is also given to Holy Ground, people who have a voucher from the church office, Vietnam Vets and other such organizations.

We have clothing for men, women, children and infants. We would like to see more men take advantage of our very reasonable priced suits, sports  jackets, pants, shirts, shoes, etc... So, men don't be bashful, come in and fill your closets. Fitting Rooms are available.

Other merchandise consists of toys, games, lamps, records, china and glassware, small electrics, jewelry, collectibles, linens, seasonal holiday items, household items, tools, wall hangings and many other items.

The thrift shop volunteers are dedicated and loyal to our mission and their time and support is greatly appreciated. We would like to have more ladies on our substitute list as some are no longer with us. If you could spare 4 hours to help out when needed during the days we are open please call me at 727-863-4270.
